OTM Mag | J. Stalin Talks Early Music Hustle, Livewire Clothing & Cypress Sparkling Wine
Bay Area hip-hop artist and entrepreneur J. Stalin recently sat down with OTM Magazine for an exclusive interview with SkipdaBOSS, sharing the story behind his journey from independent music hustle to building multiple brands—including Cypress Sparkling Wine.
Before streaming platforms and social media
marketing dominated the music industry, artists had to rely heavily on physical distribution and street promotion.
J. Stalin explained how he built early momentum by selling mixtapes for $5 each, moving units directly to fans and local stores throughout the Bay Area.
One major turning point in his career came when legendary Bay Area music retailer Rasputin Music purchased a large batch of his mixtapes. The deal reportedly brought in around $10,000, showing that independent artists could generate serious revenue through physical music sales and strong local demand.
That early success helped J. Stalin expand his reach through live performances. As his name began circulating through the Bay Area scene, he started getting booked for shows and earning around $300 per performance—a moment he described as a key shift that helped turn music into a real business opportunity.
From there, J. Stalin began building beyond music. One of his next ventures was Livewire Clothing, a streetwear brand that connected directly with his fan base and reflected the culture and lifestyle surrounding Bay Area hip-hop.
Today, J. Stalin continues expanding his entrepreneurial footprint through Cypress Sparkling Wine,
a lifestyle beverage brand that blends celebration, music culture, and business. During the interview, he explained that the opportunity came through a connection with one of his close associates who introduced him to the brand.
Since establiching his Wine, J. Stalin has grew Cypress Sparkling Wine into a recognizable name among fans and supporters of his movement. Supporters can purchase individual bottles or full cases directly online at CypressSparklingWine.com.
Even with his business ventures growing, J. Stalin hasn’t slowed down musically. He also revealed that a new music video titled “Dope Like Homer” is on the way, giving fans another look into his signature Bay Area sound and storytelling.
The interview with OTM Magazine highlights how independent artists can turn music success into larger entrepreneurial opportunities. From selling mixtapes to Rasputin Music, performing shows across the Bay Area, launching Livewire Clothing, and now building the Cypress Sparkling Wine brand, J. Stalin continues to show how artists can expand their influence far beyond music.
